The Geislinger Vdamp® and Vdamp® XT protect engine camshafts and crankshafts from damage caused by torsional vibration and help to avoid barred speed ranges. The Vdamp® is a viscous torsional vibration damper consisting of an outer housing and an inner inertia ring which is guided by bearing elements. They form a narrow shearing gap, which is filled with high viscous silicone oil, mechanically coupling the ring to the housing.
The sophisticated bearing material improves the reliability of this damper. Furthermore the Geislinger Vdamp® is appreciated by customers as a cost effective solution. In-house oil analysis at Geislinger ensures fast response and life-time forecasts.
Decades of experience in the field of torsional vibrations and sophisticated torsional vibration calculation (TVC) software enables customized viscous damper calculations. In order to improve the heat dissipation and extend the lifetime, fins can be implemented on the outside of the damper or oil spraying. Both methods decrease the thermal load and therefore help to increase the service life.
The Vdamp® XT is an evolution of the standard Geislinger Vdamp®. It is based on the same function principle, but it implements some unique features to extend the life-time. Due to a reservoir of fresh oil the worn oil can be internally replaced by just opening special valves. By this the customers can carry out an oil change without disassembling the engine on their own and therefore it can be done in the field by a technician. This leads to an extended service life and reduced service cost. The Geislinger Vdamps® are available with bolted housing making an overhaul easy to accomplish.
Ferries, dump trucks, excavators, diesel locomotives and many other applications rely on the Geislinger Vdamp® which can be adjusted to different requirements of 2- and 4-stroke engines.
