After debuting at SMM Hamburg, the Geislinger E-Drive is heading to the US! See it in action at the Pacific Marine Expo and International WorkBoat Show! Several decades of experience in marine powertrain engineering and the aim to supply our customers with ideal solutions have peaked in this fully integrated electric propulsion solution. Together with electric powertrain heavyweight AVL Geislinger provides a package that is tailored to your needs – from inverter to thrust bearing. This is our way of enabling zero emissions.
What is the Geislinger E-Drive?
The Geislinger E-Drive is Geislinger’s answer to the challenges of modern maritime propulsion systems. At the centre of the E-Drive lies the fusion of an AVL electric motor and a Geislinger powertrain solution. The collaboration not only allows to optimize mechanical interfaces, but also to individualize single aspects to the customer’s needs. The result is a weight and space optimized all-in-one solution.
The propulsion layout is based on an electric direct drive motor, which operates without a gearbox, reducing noise and vibration and lowering maintenance effort to a minimum. AVL’s high manufacturing standards allow the production of an electric machine that offers high output torque as well as lowest vibrations. Equipped with Geislinger’s acoustically optimized SILENCO® coupling the E-Drive becomes the most silent and lightest powertrain on the market.

- Tailor-made propulsion solution – Like all Geislinger products, the Geislinger E-Drive is individually designed to our customer’s requirements, enabling electric propulsion in small spaces or with tight weight restrictions.
- One-stop shop – All powertrain components are provided by Geislinger. This way we can assure the Geislinger quality. As single point of contact, Geislinger, furthermore, is responsible for the communication with our customers.
- Lightweight – Especially in modern powertrains, payload is a valuable good. The high degree of integration along with Geislinger’s carbon fiber composite products creates a uniquely lightweight powertrain solution.
- Compact – By omitting gearboxes and directly interfacing electric motor and mechanical coupling we ensure a space-saving powertrain that fits in any machine bay.
- Acoustically optimized – With the electric direct drive motor vibration levels are kept to a minimum, which is further lowered by the high AVL production standards. To avoid propagation of noise, the Geislinger SILENCO® offers outstanding acoustic performance.
- Low maintenance – All components of the Geislinger E-Drive are designed for lowest total cost of ownership. The direct drive layout allows prolonged service intervals as well as low maintenance effort, decreasing OPEX significantly.
